I have been making some progress in trying to raise awareness of my favorite cause, which is the national and international marrow donor program. I have been twittering about it, I have made some new contacts who are already involved in this cause and had made some good traction at my place of work to get a donor drive going.
Now I would like to extend my reach - if possible, farther out. I realize the biggest gap is in getting enough people signed up. Some statistics I came across. Only 30% of patients have a sibling with the same genetic makeup who can provide marrow transplants. For the remaining 70% the best chance of finding a match is via some one of their own race/ethnicity. Which means for minorities and mixed ethnicities (listed as multiracial), this becomes a bigger problem since fewer people are registered.

A gift of life is the best gift of all. And you could do this good deed in small steps. Register at the national marrow donor registry or international donor registry (all sites listed on the right hand side of this site). Then if you do get called, its a simple outpatient procedure to donate marrow.
As easy as 123. :-)
